Upload temperature measurement data to the management system

Upload temperature measurement data to the foundry management system

Most temperature digitization projects fail at the batch naming stage, not at device connectivity.

Many factories have production management software, yet temperature data remains outside the system—either because measurement devices can't connect or because no one has decided which data to include.

A logical sequence is the opposite of common practice: define the questions to answer first, select the recording points next, then choose the device. Following this order prevents purchasing devices with ports that no one will use.

Key Control Points

Previous question

Determine the required answer type: temperature per batch, per furnace, or by part code.

Standardize Name

Standardize batch numbers, furnace codes, and part codes before uploading data to the system.

Select device

The device must have a suitable communication port and be able to export data by shift.

Check initial phase

The first three weeks require cross-checking system data with the manual to identify entry errors.

Real-world experience

  • Start with one furnace and a part number; expand after stabilization.
  • Save the operator in the data. This field is often overlooked but very useful for analysis.
  • Schedule weekly data reviews; otherwise, the system becomes a passive storage repository.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to replace all the old equipment?

No. You can keep the existing device for the satellite station and only add connected devices at the main station.

Does data need cloud storage?

Not required. Storing locally with periodic backups is sufficient for most workshops.
